Omsk – a Siberian town

Want a very special Russian travel trip? Go to Siberia! Omsk is situated in Western Siberia and is one of the oldest cities in Siberia. Nowadays it is a fast developing city with great business opportunities.

Omsk was founded as a fortress in 1716, during the reign of Russian tsar Peter the Great. The fortress was located on the left bank of river Om. Another fortress was constructed on the right bank of the river and very soon became the administrative center of Siberia. There are many hotels in Russia and some of the best of them are here in Omsk.

During World War II Omsk became the place where numerous factories and plants were moved from different parts of Russia. Airplanes, tanks, mines, radio stations and many other weapons were produced there, as well as clothes for the soldiers. Omsk is the backbone of Russian currency - petrodollars.

Today Omsk is an important river port as well as a junction on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Omsk is also an important cultural center of Russia and Siberia. Great number of architectural monuments can be found in the city. One of the biggest art museums in Russia Vrubel’s Museum of Fine Arts is also situated in the city. Lives of many famous people are connected with Omsk and Omsk region, such as Ermak, Radishev and many others.

Omsk has many hotels that offer everything for a good and comfortable rest in the city. The Tourist hotel is located in the center of the city only 25 minutes’ drive from the airport. The rooms in the hotel are equipped with all needed conveniences.

The Molodyozhnaya hotel is located in a quiet green part of the city, on the left bank of the Irtysh River. The hotel has guarded parking, business and medical centers, as well as a solarium and laundry.
